There's always a lot to learn and love about Missouri. Missouri is known as the show-me state, and one of the many reasons it gets that name is because of our state's precious natural resources. From lead and iron production, Missouri ranks top for its immense supply of raw materials. Additionally, our state provides agricultural commodities, including water, highway, and railways.
Above all else, Missouri is known for its abundant forests and woodlands. Madison County Wood Products benefit greatly from Missouri’s natural resources, providing an opportunity to best serve our customers with the plentiful amount of wood products.
Brief History of Missouri's Forests & Woodlands
In the early 1800s, close to 70% of Missouri was forested. Today, around one-third of the land area in Missouri is wooded, equalling 15.5 million acres! Missouri forests and woodlands contribute to healthy soils and streams. Our forests stabilize soils, prevent erosion, and improve air quality. Forests reduce carbon dioxide and reduce the earth's climate.
If managed wisely, a healthy forest will keep producing quality trees for years, creating tremendous economic, environmental, and social benefits. Not only are Missouri forests and woodlands incredibly beneficial to the state's ecosystem, but our forests have become this state's greatest renewable resource, and Missouri's forest products industry provides thousands of jobs to Missourians. Missouri's forest products industry contributes nearly $10 billion to the state's economy. As a state-built industry, it employs nearly 53,000 people.
Our forests produce some of the finest oak, walnut, pine, and red cedar trees in the country. Many states depend on Missouri for the lumber. Madison County Wood Products knows firsthand how vital Missouri forests are to the state's economy and environment.
Our forests have seen tremendous growth over the last century. Madison County Wood Products has become the largest supplier of pallets in Missouri and one of the largest pallet producers in the midwest.
